This program is in a tailspin that the current staff obviously can’t pull out of. They’ve had plenty of chances to prove otherwise. In my opinion, the only answer is to wipe the slate clean and start over. Everyone who has been involved in creating this mess has to go. Coaches, support staff, players who aren’t bought in, all of it. Reassign the guy who empties the trash cans to another department if you have to. It’s the only way for the program to begin to heal and reestablish itself.
They took a risk and bought stock in a coach whose stock has crashed. You can’t undo that now, but you can admit it was a mistake and cut your losses before the value hits zero.
What makes it so frustrating is that it doesn’t have to be this way. For example, Miami laid dormant for two decades. They hired a new AD and head coach, started taking football seriously again, and played for a national championship within four years. This program is not dead, but it is bleeding out in front of our eyes. Unfortunately, the ones holding the tourniquet are refusing to use it.
I get that you like him personally. I get that you’ve painted yourself into a financial corner. But he gets paid to win football games, and the results have to matter. Is it worth alienating your entire fan base (and donors) to keep him?
The great Bobby Bowden was pushed out for less. Willie Taggart was fired because “frankly, 6-6 isn’t good enough.” I don’t know the finances. I don’t have $50 million to give. But I do know this isn’t working, and it can’t be allowed to continue. The standard is only the standard if you uphold it. This is embarrassing, frustrating, and undermines the proud name it took 40+ years to build.
Change needs to happen, and it needs to happen now.
TJ Pittinger, on his Double Fries watch along, got so frustrated toward the end of the show, he said everyone needs to be fired, the janitors, the guy who makes the honey fried chicken…. I cracked up! But seriously, I got to thinking this morning about Tony White and how his defense has given up record amounts of yards, almost like our opponents are playing against air. Then you think about Norvell’s history with FSU: First coach to lose to Duke, first coach to lose to an FCS opponent, miss a bowl, go sub .500, etc. etc. Now imagine putting those 2 people together to coach the same team! It’s a perfect storm of ASS. It’s a rotten dumpster, filled with rotted garbage, and then set on fire. Currently FSU is a laughing stock in college football. They are an embarrassment. There are literally dozens of teams with less talent that play harder, more focused, and better coordinated. Whatever cancer is present in this program, it’s metastasized to every level. To be honest, Ernie Sims should run for his life and Kromah should transfer before he gets infected too. The biggest question right now is whether or not whomever-the-fuck-is-ultimately-in-charge has the balls to nuke everything and start from scratch. I say this because I’m also reading stuff online about the board of trustees being part of the problem and President McCullough not being strong enough to make changes, etc. So its great that we’ll eventually get a new AD or multiple people that split duties within that role. And its great we’ll someday get a new coach and assistants, but is that just a really big band-aid that you are placing on a rotting cancerous sore?? It’s getting difficult to be optimistic about FSU ever rising up again. Or it could be that I’m just bitter and venting after that fiasco we witnessed yesterday.
